Marleen Forkas is a “Woman of Firsts” and here we go again, dancing for a cause. Marleen will be taking on seven other community leaders to raise money for The George Snow Scholarship Fund, by participating in the 3rd annual Boca’s Ballroom Battle.
When you’re watching “Dancing with the Stars,” have you ever thought to yourself, “I’d really like to try that!” Well, I have and now I’ve decided to step out and give it a shot – all for a good cause, of course! From now until August 20, I’ll be in training to take part in “Boca’s Ballroom Battle,” a very exciting charity event at the Boca Raton Resort & Club that benefits the George Snow Scholarship Fund.
I’ve been aware of the good work that the George Snow Scholarship Fund does for some time, and I recently decided to reach out to our area’s deserving high school graduates by establishing the Marleen and Harold* Forkas “American Dream” Scholarship Program within the Fund. This scholarship, which honors the memory of my late husband, Harold, will provide one student per year with a $5,000 award to help pay college-related expenses. My husband Harold never went to college, BUT he placed a very high value on formal education and KNEW how important it is in today’s world. There could be no better way to keep his great spirit alive than to help our young people pursue their hopes and dreams.
NOW, in addition to providing the scholarship, I’m going to help raise money for the George Snow Scholarship Fund by taking part in “Boca’s Ballroom Battle.” This is a contest, and you know me – I intend to win! To do that I need your help!!!
The Ballroom Battle has two parts:
1. A Dance Competition
I will be training at the Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Boca Raton up to three days a week to prepare and perfect my routine for the competition, which will take place on Friday, August 20, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Boca Raton Resort and Club. I hope to see you in my “CHEERING SECTION” when my partner and I step onto the dance floor to “DO OUR STUFF”!
2. A Fundraising Challenge
To help me raise $25,000 for the Scholarship Fund, please go to www.ballroombattle.com, click on my name and then click on the DONATE button. To make sure that your donation goes to ME, be sure to select my name in the drop down box under “Dancer I am supporting.”
3. Tickets for the Event
Please call 561-347-6799, the George Snow Scholarship Fund, and order them. They are $150 apiece.
Thank you in advance for your support as I take on this challenge!
On the website www.ballroombattle.com you’ll be able to follow my progress through photos and videos as I get ready to give the performance of a lifetime. And now, in the immortal words of the late, great Irving Berlin,
